Our commitment

Simple Beauty by Emily wants everyone to be able to use this website, including people who browse with a screen reader, navigate by keyboard, or rely on magnification. We treat accessibility as ongoing work, not a box to tick.

Conformance status

We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. This site is partially conformant: most of the standard is met, and we are working through the remaining items. We are describing our honest current status rather than claiming full conformance.

The accessibility toolbar

Every page has an accessibility button in the bottom-left corner. It opens a toolbar where you can size the text up to 175%, increase line height and letter spacing, switch to a plain readable typeface, raise contrast, invert or mute the colours, highlight links, turn on strong focus outlines, enlarge the cursor, show a reading guide, and stop animations. There are also one-click presets — Seizure Safe, Vision Impaired, ADHD Friendly, Dyslexia Friendly and Keyboard Navigation. Your choices are remembered on your device until you press “Reset all”.

To be clear about what it is: the toolbar adjusts how this site looks for you. It is a convenience, not a substitute for the site being accessible in the first place, and it does not change how your own screen reader, browser zoom or operating system settings work — those keep working as they always do. The items below are the work we have done on the pages themselves.

What we have done

  • A "Skip to main content" link so keyboard users can bypass the navigation.
  • Proper landmark regions (header, navigation, main, footer) on every page.
  • Exactly one descriptive H1 per page, with headings in a logical order that does not skip levels.
  • Text alternatives on images, and accessible names on icon-only links and buttons.
  • Labels on every contact form field.
  • Titles on embedded frames (map, booking, gift cards).
  • Row headers on the opening-hours table.
  • Visible keyboard focus indicators.
  • A page that can be zoomed and reflows on small screens.

Known limitations

We are aware of the following and are working on them:

  • Third-party embeds. The booking and gift card windows are provided by Square, and the map by Google. We do not control their accessibility. If an embed blocks you, call or email us and we will book you or sell you a gift card directly.
  • Colour contrast. Some decorative and heading text over photographic backgrounds may not yet meet the 4.5:1 contrast ratio in every viewport size.
  • Motion. Some sections fade in as you scroll. We are adding support for the "reduce motion" setting in your operating system.

Assessment method

This site was reviewed with a combination of automated accessibility scanning and manual checks of keyboard navigation, heading structure and text alternatives. Automated tools cannot catch everything, which is why the feedback route above matters to us.
